The desire to repair the degraded reefs must be congratulated but I felt like crying when I saw the 'domes'!. They couldn't look anymore unnatural and have smooth surface and steep sides that coral will find hard to stay attached to in the long term.
Unusual choice of shape to restore Egypts beautiful reefs. They will remind Europeans of the factory chimneys back home!
This is a common problem we see around the world. We tend to construct artificial reef structures that look like buildings we use rather than 'homes' marine animals use. I hope there is scope to modify and improve these 'domes'.
